A strict regimen of rubbish

I've been taking a couple of days off. I've discovered that doing nothing is a skill I'll have to relearn. I'm finding it difficult to read more than a page or two at a time of anything not non-fictional and related to Hild. The closest I've managed to get is WSJ articles, the Economist, and Archaeology.

This is very sad.

So yesterday I took myself in hand and prescribed a strict regimen of rubbish: chocolate, ham sandwiches, beer, and TV. No erring to the serious, no dipping into the worthy.

I watched an episode of Dexter, followed by Patriot Games and futzed about with Photoshop. And for today I've downloaded Attack the Block. If it were playing around here, I go buy half a ton of popcorn and a pound of Skittles, and park myself in front of Your Highness:

  1. Ha: this is hilarious! How do you like Dexter? Every new season I do some illegal downloading of the show and watch it in Europe before it's aired there.
And: I happen to be in Miami right now and it just occurred to me that I need to do it soon again. That illegal-downloading-thing :-)

    Cheers,

  2. Kate, I like Dexter. I've watched every ep of seasons 1-5. But we got cross about the cost of cable a while back, and didn't get Showtime for a while. We caved and re-upped a few weeks ago, but missed the first ep of season 6. I just got around to watching that (on the teeny tiny screen of my iPhone) and will now happily plunge into the TiVo'd eps.

  3. well I like dexter too, and, in all honesty I like Deb even more; she's "elementary" in her own way. I'm lagging behind you in terms of seasons and episodes. it's not aired in europe so I have to find ways to get it. did you try this: http://www.movie2k.to/ ?

look for "dexter", pick language, season and episode. not sure about the legal status of the page in the U.S. but it (usually) works :-)

  4. Kate, nope, I don't know that site. I can't decide if it's entirely legal. And by Dexter I mean the whole ensemble, not just Dexter Morgan. Deb, as you say, is great.

  5. the site is, most likely, in some gray zone between legal and illegal; decide for yourself whether you want to use it or not. (you're not sharing files and you're only temporarily downloading stuff on your computer - if at all (this is unclear to me); so what you basically do is streaming; in some countries that's legal.)

as for myself: I must somehow survive in this corporate world so I ... well by going there I'm not violating some artist's copy rights; so I feel it's OK.

and, by the way, you can basically watch every goddamn movie out now, even the most recent ones. I find that hard to resist ;-)
