The malevolence of inanimate objects

It's been an odd few days at the Eskridge-Griffith household.

It began with Kelley getting kicked in the head at her gym. (No lasting damage, but she got her teeth rattled and her temper riled.) Then our portable oil heater leaked all over the floor. The hot water ran cold for no good reason. Software mysteriously turned on me. (Dropbox, if you must know. No clue what the problem is.) I twisted my wrist. The comforter exploded all over the laundry. Even the sunshine seems weirdly menacing and the birds subdued.

Why? Well, the only thing I can think of is that for the first time in years I went three whole weeks without a massage. My solution: I'll have two massages this week! That and more beer should propitiate the gods (not to mention, y'know, me).

A reasonable blog schedule will resume shortly.

How has your January been so far? On balance, are you finding the beginning of 2011 better or worse than 2010?

  1. This year rocks so far. Announcements forthcoming...

Man, though, I hate when the world turns against ya. May it all fall back into line very soon.

  2. Better, overall. I've been able to be up enough to go to an art opening and a benefit dinner with some friends. I somehow killed both my elbows by crocheting for 20 minutes today(?! fibromyalgia and Epstein-Barr don't play well together). On the other hand, I drove home from work on a half-inch of ice, only slid twice, and didn't hit anything either time. Had some interesting character/plot ideas today for current work, so life is good here. Cold (25 degrees F), but good.

I'm sorry you've had a rough week. Hope you can get fellow gym-mates, comforters, oil heaters, and such back in line soon. How are the Kerbs?

  4. It's been an odd/off week here too, people out pf synch, acting odd, leaving me wondering what's going on! Ing is back in Sydney from her holiday in Bali and got back to her apartment to find an eviciton notice - the owner wants it back... I hope Kelley's head and your wrist recover fully,,,

Jo, the kerbs are running wild. Huge. Green. Perhaps I should rename them the Hulks. Photos at the weekend.

transceptor, one massage down, one to go. Feeling better already :)

Jude, K's head was fine ten minutes after it happened. My wrist is practically back to normal. So, hey, things are looking up.

  8. I hate to egg the gods and goddesses on by saying the plans, my plan and Terri's plan, are working cuz, well you know how they like to laugh at us, but things are sort of moving along what with Blake Griffin taking the Clippers to another level and us finding out how to put the cable on hold for 6 months of the year so we can read more. And oh yeah, our rainy season appears to have come and gone so it feels like Spring is here. And I just finished reading Room which was such a wonderful treat. So here's smiling at you kids and here's hoping that short story of Aud in Seattle is just about ready.

  9. rhbee, glad your life is going well. But remind me about that Aud short story. It's not ringing any bells...

  11. Hope things normalize for you...

Been trying to fix a leak in my '90 Honda Accord (nothing worse than going out and finding ice on the INSIDE of the windshield), had a week of Snowpocalypse in Atlanta (with black ice and the biggest snow accumulation since whenever and lots of crazy drivers), finally got the stove my sister and her hubby gave me for Christmas, celebrated the 30th birthday of Buffy (the Vampire Slayer) with friends at the bronzebeta.com posting board (online family with all the quirks and joy and sniping of RL) and somehow have managed to rewrite / edit 2/3 of my lesbian vampire screenplay. Life is strange, but good.
