Want to read this blog every day on your Kindle? The whole thing, with no ads? Cool! Go here and sign up. You get a 14-day free trial. If you like it, it's only $1.99 a month [edit: now only 99¢] to subscribe. It will just show up, wirelessly, soundlessly, effortlessly and with a winning smile.
Even if you don't have a Kindle, you could still click on the Amazon link and leave a review of the blog. Share the wonder (okay, dailiness) that is Ask Nicola!
Also, if you would, please take a look at the banner of this blog. I'm thinking of changing it--and when I try something new I'd like your opinion.

Do you get a cut of that or does Amazon get it all?
ReplyDeleteIs this the change you were discussing on facebook? If it is, I really like Jennifer D's photo. On the other hand, I would really miss this one. Is that any help?
ReplyDeletejennifer, I get 30%. No one will ever make real money from it, it's more of a convenience for regular users.
ReplyDeletebarbara, yes. And no, not much, but I'll take the compliment :)
I like the banner-- what about like, cycling banners? Choose a stable length/width/style & cycle photos through it?
ReplyDeleteWell, if there were 1000 true kindle-reading fans of this blog, you would get $597/month. Not enough to pay the bills, but maybe some nice dinners out?
ReplyDeleteNow, if there 10,000... things are starting to get more interesting. Some blogs like Lifehacker, etc. must make some decent money from that.
I signed up for it. Kind of cool, but no comments/commenting! And can't see the images (ok that sux). Better than nothing tho.
Blogger, at least the off-the-shelf version I'm currently using, would require that I change things out by hand. Life is too short. Doesn't mean to say I couldn't change things every now and again, when I feel like it, but I don't do well with regular schedules...
ReplyDeleteAs for the money: if the figures I've seen floating around are true, i.e. that there are a million Kindles in the world (all in the US), that would put the per person Kindle incidence at .0003, give or take. Multiply that by my regular monthly readers and you get...not very much. If I get three paid subscribers I'd be delighted. But, oh yep, some people will be making a mint.
Yeah, I know, but hey, this Kindle thing is just getting started... Interesting to think about anyway.
ReplyDeleteI wish Amazon would just get over its issues with Wi-Fi and electronic copyright in Canada and gave us our Kindles, even if downloads had to be USB-based.
ReplyDeleteBanner noted. Awaiting changes.
Hi Karina. I'm glad to meet you back here. I miss you when you're not around.
ReplyDeleteAs to the banner, I think it's also become your brand. Beware what happens to Pepsi and Coke when they try to be "new". Plus, the world changes to much as it is, and I like the sense of calm I feel when I see your familiar face.
ReplyDeleteAs for the kindle issue, it seems to me that there are at least two parts to it. One, it is another venue outlet, like twitter/facebook, and so in that regard if it will add to your audience and bring in cash that's swell.
But that brings me to the other issue. There is much being said these days about the large telecons trying figure out how to charge us for our use of the internet. If Amazon can charge someone for perusing your blog, then this might, I say might, be a way towards the end of the free internet we all need and love.
I know, maybe I'm forever the pessimist but still . . .
