video of me reading

Here are two videos of me reading at Hugo House from my memoir, And Now We Are Going to Have a Party. The first piece is the story of how the 4-yr-old me got the name No-Panta Griffith and stopped believing in fairies:

This second story is about being sixteen and finally falling in love (and lust):

Many thanks to David Wulzen for the wonderful camera work.

  1. Wonderful readings, Nicola. The second video was just lovely and heartbreaking.

I've requested a review copy of your memoir from P&S to review for The Internet Review of Science Fiction, but haven't heard back from them yet. Hopefully soon.

  2. Thanks. First love is always heartbreaking. Sigh.

If you don't hear back from P&S, let me know, okay?

  3. You betcha. I'm not sure how willing they'll be to send a review copy, since it was a limited edition, and not cheap (plus shipping to Singapore has gotten pricey), but I mentioned working something out where I at least can get a discount on it. It's such a remarkable box set, and so beautifully presented, and I haven't even seen it in person yet. :)

Also, very big congratulations on winning the Lambda!

  4. Brilliant

I will be requesting my local independant, Glad Day Bookshop, order copies. They already have Always and Stay, but need the memoir.

Loved the tight camera angle accentuating the intimacy of the story.

  5. I'm delighted you liked it.

Glad Day is in Toronto, right? When you talk to the buyer, let them know they'll probably have to deal directly with the publisher, Payseur and Schmidt because I'm not sure they have a distributor. Also, please feel free to mention the fact that next month I have an essay coming out in a fab queer studies book, Queer Universes, ed. Pearson, Hollinger, Gordon (Liverpool University Press, UK, but distributed by University of Chicago in the US--dunno about Canada), co-written with Kelley.
